Welcome to our Website during the time AFTER EPIPHANY, as we enter the LENTEN SEASON

St. Matthew's endeavors to outreach through community service by servicing the food bank, bringing the Word to those outside of St. Matthew's, education sessions which include our own parishioners and those of other faiths and creeds, providing clothing and essentials to a  family-in-need at the holidays.

    • Gloria is not used in Lent except where indicated as optional.
    • The optional Eucharistic reading from Isaiah is duplicated on Friday and Saturday.

    Notes for LENT:

    • All lesser saints' days are optional, the weekdays of Lent being "Greater Ferias".. If these days are celebrated, the season is always commemorated.
    • Alleluia is NOT sung or said during Mass or the offices.
    • The Prayer Over the People may be sung or said before the final blessing at Mass. The text of these prayers may be found in the BOS-Book of Occasional Services, 2003, pages 24-26.
    • The use of flowers and organ music should be limited during the season, except on the Fourth Sunday in Lent.
    • Weddings should not be celebrated during the season.
    • The Stations of the Cross is particularly appropriate, especially on Fridays. See the BOS-Book of Occasional Services, 2003, page 57 or TASB-The Anglican Service Book, page 693.
    • Lent Array, or unbleached linen with limited ornamentation, may be used in place of violet vestments.
    • The Great Litany may be sung in procession before the Principal Mass. See the BCP-The Book of Common Prayer, 1979, page 148 or TASB -The Anglican Service Book, page 152.
    • Mass readings and collects for Lenten weekdays may be found in LEF-Lesser Feasts and Fasts, 2006, pages 29-61.
    • Crosses and images are veiled in purple either for the entire season or during the last two weeks of Lent.

    • -Wednesday, Friday and Saturday of this week are the spring Ember Days. collect for these days may be found in the BCP -The Book of Common Prayer, 1979, page 205 and 2576 and in the TASB-The Anglican Service Book, page 144.
    • Gloria is not used during Lent, except on those feasts where its optional use is noted.
    • The Great Litany may be used in place of an entrance hymn but if the enrollment of candidates of Baptism takes place on this Sunday, the Litany is best postponed until the Second Sunday in Lent. It is also especially fitting on the Fifth Sunday in Lent.
